On a Roll

I have been on a bit of a break from drinking because I've had the Cold-From-Hell that's been going around the greater-Boston area. Plus, I have a big weekend coming up soon and I thought it best that I be "fresh" and detoxed before I ruin my body again, haha. Alas, this lasted exactly two weeks (instead of the expected 3-and-change), coming to a screeching halt last night.

I napped, and that was where it all went downhill. Usually if I have a good mid-afternoon nap (think: during a Saturday afternoon Red Sox game, a.k.a. between 1-4 sometime) I am fully recovered and ready to roll by dinner time. This was the case yesterday. By the time I showed up at Donahue's to "say hi" to the boys for a few minutes, I was feeling pretty amped. Three quick and easy beers later ("Goin' down like church music" as Coach would say), I was in a state that could only be described as "primed." A phone call to my girl D and that was it - we stated explicitly that we were going out to own the bar, and that was that.

In truth, the bar probably owned me, but it's all a matter of perception. I saw like 100 random people (two from high school, one from college, three I haven't seen in a year, etc) and most of "the girls" and basically had a bunch of good laughs at my own expense. Several adult beverages deep, at one point I was apparently spouting off such craziness that even as the words were coming out of my mouth, I realized through the deep haze of my inebriated state that I might possibly be the most ridiculous person ever. Hopefully I was at least amusing, because that's pretty much what I was going for - for the record, I had a GREAT time being a total idiot and despite my protesting head this morning I hope to do it again sometime.

Which brings me to 2 weekends from now. In case you didn't know, the RED SOX SEASON STARTS TOMORROW. This is big news in my life, as the next 5-6 months will revolve around baseball. Once the Sox open at home (April 11), I ramp it up immediately with games on the 13th, 15th, and 17th. That game on the 17th is Patriot's Day, also known as Marathon Monday here in Boston. I'll be on the Green Monster with a bunch of very drunk boys, so look for us. The thing is, the game is at like 11am, which means we have to wake up early just so we can drink. I am fondly reminded of college...

Oh, did I mention that the Boston Beer Summit is that Saturday night? Geez.

In the meantime (I have a lot to say today), I am REALLY excited about going to San Francisco, despite the fact that it's 3 1/2 months away (109 days but who's counting)? I am so excited that I want it to be here NOW, but then I remember what a very wise friend of mine reminded me the other day (see the comments for "Into the Infinite Abyss" entry) - "Enjoy the moment." Between now and July 20 I have a great deal of things going on. Why rush it? Though I don't do well with waiting or anticipation, I have to know that July 20th will be here eventually and in the meantime I should enjoy the 239823947 other things I have going on in my life - friends birthdays, Red Sox games, Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July, the baby shower, summer weather, barbeques, my brother's 21st birthday, OG coming to visit(!!), just to name a few. Come to think of it, the next few months are going to FLY by!

In the meantime, the sun's out, the air is warm, there's a soft breeze, and there are a few hours of daylight left... I'm going to enjoy the rest of today.
