18 Shopping Days Until My Birthday
I am a birthday slut, I admit it. It's the one time a year where I feel like I can be completely selfish without anyone giving a shit, because it's MY day. I am especially excited this year because it falls a Friday (unlike my 21st, which fell on an oh-so-awesome Monday). A few friends from the Boston area are coming down, and hopefully I can rally the troops down here a little bit - call on some friends of friends to get a good party going - and it can be a grand old time. I would expect regular updates on here as to how long it is until my birthday, just so everyone is clear.
In other news, the Chief Justice died! What?? In all the rain and flooding and shitstorm that is going on in the southeastern part of the US right now, the f-ing Chief-most-conservative-vote-on-the-court-Justice dies. Out of nowhere. I mean, I know he was sick and everything, but it still took me by surprise. Now Bush is talking about making John Roberts the new Chief Justice.
I don't know how to feel about this to be honest. I think that maybe it wouldn't be so bad because he is at least somewhat moderate as far as I can tell. It's definitely important to not have an idealogue of any political stripe heading our Supreme Court. However, I also feel like we have not seen nearly enough of John Roberts the Judge to confirm him to HEAD our highest court. Ya know?? But then my other concern is that Bush will feel like he has fulfilled his "please the middle" duty with Roberts and will push for some crazy redneck mofo who hates queers and niggers and broads (though only in private), and then we'll be stuck with that guy as our Chief Justice. It's like, rock, hard place.
Honestly, though, I don't even want to be thinking about this political bullshit right now. Where is New Orleans?? I know a guy who used to work at a bar there named Tipitinias, and who knows if the bar even exists anymore! (Their website still has events listed, but it's entirely possible that they just haven't been able to update it due to the storm). I called my boy in Albany - his brother is the one living in New Orleans - to find out what the situation is with C, and apparently he and his girlfriend packed up their clothes and the pets (dogs and cats) and headed out of town the Friday before the storm. They haven't been back yet, but it looks like their house didn't get the worst of the storm. Somehow they saw aeriel photos of their house and it looked like a tree fell on part of the house and the roof possibly blew off, but the flooding was minimal. That is just insane. Even if they didn't have that much damage, there's a good chance they'll get looted... what???
Such craziness... my thoughts definitely go out to those affected by the storm and its aftermath. On that note, though, I do have my own life to attend to still and that means it's time for this tired tiger to get to bed...
